Summary: Only for Die Hard KISS Fans
Comment: This DVD is fun, but only for Die Hard Make-up KISS Fans because it's pretty lengthy and features a lot of backstage kinda stuff, photo shoots, stage design, rehearsal footage and whatnot. It could get kinda boring for casual fans. There aren't many full Concert performances on this one. You should be into the Reunion stuff too, cuz there isn't much coverage on the 70's era. I mean it's called The Second Coming, so obviously it's about the reunion. It's definitely fun to watch though and i dig it. The rehearsal footage is awesome to see. It covers the best parts of the Reunion if you're into it.

Summary: Interesting rockumentary
Comment: This release can be viewed in a number of ways. Firstly, on the face of it, the DVD is a rockumentary about the renewal of the partnership between what most fans of this multi-million dollar entertainment industry would call the classic line up. To wit; Stanley, Simmons, Frehley and Criss. And as to that, it's very well done. There is the usual hyperbole about this and that but there are also some quite considered answers by pretty much all the participants about how this coming together of the band was not pre ordained nor a certainty. Following the story right from the word go the DVD traces the various behind the scenes issues that had to be dealth with just to get such an undertaking off the ground and the band are to be thanked for their candid comments.

Mixed in with the serious stuff is also some tomfoolery. Whatever their many and varied and well documented interpersonal issues when these guys are getting on they are really getting on. Having fought through the hard early years together has clearly made a bond between them which is perhaps why their latter day fueding was so vicious. Your friends know just how to hurt you, ya know?

As the DVD continues we get more hard rock concert footage and get to see the band as they criss cross the globe, snippets of interviews thrown in and it must be said that this is very well paced. Director Tommy Thayer really deserves a serious round of applause as this release could so easily have lapsed into a sordid back slapping session. It could of also gotten very tedious and could of jumped around too much to be coherent.

The extras are basically some live tracks - apparently you didn't get this on the VHS version of the release. None are really essential, they are just an adjunct to the main course of the film. Still, it's always good to see extra value.

While this DVD could also be viewed as a cynical cash in exercise on their renewed profile in the wake of their temporary reconvening I'll leave the cynicism to Gene and just sit back and enjoy the show. And the reason for only four stars - well as much as I found it an interesting and pleasant enough movie I'm not sure people other than major fans are going to want to watch this again and again which limits it's usefulness. The perfect gift perhaps for a KISS fan near you.

Summary: Come on people, what's the title of the DVD?!
Comment: This is a super DVD documentary of KISS reuniting for their 96-97 world tour. And that's the point; the message and footage on this DVD is supposed to provide us with an entertaining look at how the band reformed and conquered the world, which it does! The DVD is excellent and all these reviews of bad footage must be from a pressing of bad disks or something. Or maybe, as others have mentioned, certain footage that looks grainy is 20+ years old. Video cameras back then sucked, look at any concert footage from any band in that era for comparison. My copy looks and sounds awesome! Anyway, get this DVD, it's excellent!

Summary: So glad they regrouped
Comment: It's a great DVD which tracks the regrouping of one of the best bands ever. I have to admit I never called Kiss my "favourite band", back then I was more of a Led Zeppelin person - it all boils down to who you're exposed to I guess.

I remember a few decades ago there was a Kerrang magazine issue entitled "Kiss vs Led Zeppelin" or vice versa. I wonder in hindsight what a worldwide vote would reveal.

It's a shame that there were some Christians who wanted to stop one of the Kiss shows that featured on the DVD... but it's worth remembering that not only Christians can be bigots. If we weren't prepared to stick up for our beliefs we wouldn't hold them; just ask Gene Simmons his opinion of a certain other large world religion.

This DVD is well worth the time & money - 5 stars.

For over a quarter century, Kiss has shaped the face of popular music and rock culture. The "Kiss Alive Worldwide" tour saw the rebirth of rock's most incredible band. Who are these masked men and where did they come from? What did it take to reclaim their title as "The Hottest Band in the World?" After 18 years apart, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss and Gene Simmons overcame their past differences, finally reuniting the powerhouse original Kiss lineup that wrote rock and roll legend. This is Kiss and this is their story.
