Customer Rating: Summary: The Vietnam War (History Channel) Comment: I BOUGHT THIS DVD SET BECAUSE IT WAS BY THE HISTORY CHANNEL. I HAVE NEVER BOUGHT A DVD FROM THE HISTORY CHANNEL AND WAS DISSAPIONTED AND THIS WAS NO EXCEPTION. I RECCOMEND ANY ONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN THE VIETNAM WAR TO WATCH THIS AND I GARENTEE YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED. GREAT DETAIL OF INFORMATION, AND VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
Customer Rating: Summary: MY Uncle Says Comment: My Uncle went to Vietnam, volunteer, and though he said he found it to leave out some information, he found the entire documentary quite thorough in its details of the war as he remembered it. He pointed out only a few details that they brought out about the reasons for going, the problems with the stay, and the internal combustion of the government who tried to fight the war instead of letting the soldiers fight it that he thought were really interesting, and really true to his opinion of what happened to the war. He felt all and all that this documentary was good for someone that was there, and certainly good for me, who wasn't even alive then.
Customer Rating: Summary: Woefully short of the mark ! Comment: I bought this to get a start-to-finish understanding of the Vietnam War...why it occured, why the US involvement, how it ended. None of this is apparent and it dwells much to long on specific battles and worse, journalists ! The History Channel is usually first-rate but this isn't.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not fully comprehensive, but focused and accurate Comment: This History Channel documentary does not intend to be a fully comprehensive account about the Vietnam War, but a selection of decisive points in the war. It has good footage, most of it appears to be exclusive. The explanation about the battles selected becomes even stronger with the personal accounts of military involved in them. In fact, a very fine acquisition to a war video collection.

At a total cost of more than 3.1 million lives, the Vietnam conflict is, to date, America s longest and most controversial war. It also marked the first time TV journalists ventured out to the frontlines to bring the spectacle of combat into American living rooms. Across the nation, Americans watched, captivated by the surprise Tet Offensive and the slow-motion tragedy of the 77-day Battle of Khe Sanh, and witnessed the courage and skill of American soldiers at decisive engagements like Ia Drang Valley, Con Thien, and Dak To.
Now THE HISTORY CHANNEL presents a comprehensive 2-disc set that profiles the decision-makers and chronicles each key event in the Vietnam war, from the advisors arrival in 1959 to the airlift from the roof of the American Embassy in 1975. Archival footage and interviews with historians and veterans reveal the military and political strategies in play, and CBS News archives take viewers to the frontlines to witness the daily struggles of American servicemen and women.
