Summary: One Of The Best Book-To-Film Translations I Have Ever Seen
Comment: A few weeks ago, I finished Stephen King's novel "The Green Mile" and realized that I was about the only person on the planet who had not seen the film adaptation. Upon viewing the 3-hour piece of work, I was amazed by the degree to which King's writing was able to be translated to the big screen (as opposed to, say, "Hearts In Atlantis", which left much to be desired).

The plot of the film is exactly the same as that of the book, centering on a 1930s death row prison and the strange (paranormal?) events that transpired there. All the actors are dead-on in their interpretation of King's characters, such as the inspired Paul Edgecombe (Tom Hanks), the lunatic guard Percy Wetmore(Doug Hutchison), the even loony-er prisoner "Wild Bill" Wharton (Sam Rockwell), and the hulking, meek inmate John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), from which the story really draws from.

I won't give away any plot details here, but suffice it to say that pretty much everyone will enjoy this film. While the subject matter and language (the film IS set in a prison) rules out the kiddies, pretty much anybody else should find it to be an inspiring journey, as the movie explores the themes of death, love, and doing the noble deed in the face of great opposition.

I don't say this for many book-film combinations, but in this case you may actually be better off in seeing the film, as the acting is so wonderful and the plot does not deviate from the novel.

Summary: A film you will never forget.
Comment: First let me say that my title of this movie is very true. It's not just something I thought would look good as a title. Once you see this movie you will remember it to some degree for the rest of your life. If you watch it alone you will tell your friends and family about it. You will probably let them borrow it or watch it with them just so you can see it again. The movie runs for 3 hours but I did not get tired once. I lost myself in the movie. When I was watching it everything around me disappeared.

The movie has a great cast. Some of the main people are Tome Hanks who plays Paul Edgecomb the head of part of a prison called the green mile (more on that later.) You may remember Hanks from movies like Big 1988 and Philadelphia 1993. David Morse who plays Brutus Howell. You have seen him in movies like The Getaway 1994 and 16 blocks 2006. Michael Clark Duncan who plays John Coffey. He has bee in the films The whole nine yards 2000 and Sin City 2005. These are just some of the great actors in this movie They are all giving some of the greatest performances I have ever seen.

Now for the movie. I do not want to give away the big parts of the film, so I will try to tell you about it while at the same tie keeping the main stuff a mystery. The movie is about a man that is accused of committing a horrible crime. He is sentenced to death and sent to the green mile. The green mile is what the men who work in this part of the prison call it. It is death row. The man accused may be more than a man. You will have to watch to see what I mean. During the end something happens that will make you so mad that he is being put to death. You will think about it for a while. He will hurt 2 men in the prison. One who works there and one who has become a prisoner. You will find out why these men had happen to them what they did. Also, you will ask yourself why about something. The question will be about something very important in the movie. But you will come to find out at the very end that sometimes even good men, whom do things that may be considered good. Must pay for that which they did. Even if not by being in pain or suffering. This movie will probably make you sad because you will take something the prisoner says to hank's character at the end and really think about how true it is in life.

What the basic meaning of all this is, this movie will make so many people happy. As I said earlier you will more than likely never forget it. Buying it is a great idea because you will want to see it again. Whether with a friend, family member or alone. You may even want to watch it twice in a row to make sure you didn't miss anything important. I am sure that this film is in the top 100 films ever made list. After you watch it you can decide on your own if you think it should be or not. Enjoy!

Summary: Just an Outstanding Film!
Comment: What a great movie! I'm not a huge Tom Hanks fan but have enjoyed some of his films. This one, though, may end up as being my favorite of his. Filled with great scenes of both hope and tragedy, of sorrow and of joy, with just a touch of redemption thrown in.

Based on a book by Stephen King, the Green Mile starts off in modern day times and then uses a "flashback" to tell the story of a group of death row guards during the depression and the strange story of a condemmed prisoner named John Coffy (played magnificiently by Michael Duncan). The story is a mix of drama, humor, and adds the spiritual/mystical as only Stephen King can do. The story also has one of the most creative twists at the end. Very surprising!

But what takes this movie one of the best I've personally watched is the supporting cast. Besides the well known David Morse & Bonnie Hunt, we get James Cromwell (L.A. Confidential, Star Trek - First Contact), Michael Jeter (Open Range), Graham Greene (Dances with Wolves (Widescreen Edition)), Sam Rockwell (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Widescreen Edition)) & Harry Dean Stanton (way too many great roles to pick just a couple).

I would recommend this to any movie buff looking for originality and creativity. Great actors, great story, great film!

Summary: I'm tired. I'm tired of being alone. But mostly ... I'm tired of people being ugly to each other.
Comment: In its simplest form The Green Mile is about an eye for an eye ... but when have you known Stephen King to be simple? Stephen King ... the man who gets paid fifty thousand dollars for writing "boo" on a napkin. Stephen King. In the beginning we meet an elderly gentleman who tells of his time working on "The Green Mile" Death Row for inmates in Louisiana's Cold Mountain Penitentiary. Shortly thereafter, we meet John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan) who was sentenced to death for the murder of two young girls. From his introduction (Michael Clarke Duncan) plays the role of the child-like John Coffey filled with boyish impetuosity to perfection.

During this time, Paul Edgecombe (Tom Hanks) is suffering from a urinary tract infection ... and the extraordinary that is John Coffey shows itself. This miracle of God has the mystical ability to heal. At the same time we meet Percy Wetmore (Doug Hutchison) a mean, stupid, sadistic man. In this setting, that is a dangerous combo, but he is the nephew of the governor's wife. Next we meet a violent prisoner named Wild Bill (Sam Rockwell) who is sentenced to death for killing three people in a robbery attempt. During the film, when Wild Bill grabs John Coffey's arm we learn who the real killer of the two young girls is.

In its simplest form The Green Mile is about an eye for an eye ... the problem with that is ... everyone ends up blind. With John Coffey being innocent, Paul is left with the life altering decision of what to do. Does he put to death one of God's true miracles? During a conversation with his wife, Paul decides to ask Coffey what he wants him to do. John Coffey replies: I'm tired. I'm tired of being alone. But mostly ... I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. The movie then flashes forward to Paul Edgecombe, now a hundred and eight years old telling his female companion of his curse in life. He is cursed to watch all his loved ones die. An eye for an eye........

Oscar nomimated best picure adaptation of a Stephen King novel about a gentle giant of a prisoner with supernatural powers, who brings a sense of spirit and humanity to his guards and fellow inmates. Oscar award winning actor Tom Hanks heads the cast in this emotionally riveting story.
