Summary: No End In Sight
Comment: This series has gone and blown away the mold of the police drama. Soars FAR above everything else that is currently out there. By the time Vic and the strike team are through, police shows will never be the same. This series is a must for anyone who is starving for unpredictable, unprecedented action/drama/excitement. It is never what it seems. The Shield comes at the viewer from so many different directions that it keeps the viewer guessing to the end of each and every episode. I can only give this series the HIGHEST possible recommendation!

Comment: Oh my goodness the shield season 3 is so far out there. That money train money was like begging to be took. LOL These guys made it rain money. Vic and his guys are going to go deep. Comment: Season 3 of The Shield deals with a continuation of the Money Train story established in season 2 as well as introduces new story lines. One I wasn't crazy about - Claudette being put in charge of the Strike Team as well as a new team, the Decoy Squad, to placate her disappointment over not being put in charge of the Barn because Aceveda did not depart - but it did present some good stories, including a rivalry between the 2 teams. I'm writing this review 3 years after these episodes were originally broadcast so I can say what happens during this season has an impact on what happens in later seasons so you need to see all the seasons to appreciate how great a show the Shield is.
About the presentation of the DVD set, the season 3 set is the first set with each DVD in its own plastic case, which I prefer more than the Seasons 1 and 2 'folding set'. On the back of each case is a description of what's on the DVD inside - the episodes and its synopsis as well as deleted scenes. Sad to say only about 1/3 of the episodes have commentaries.

Summary: Lull Between Seasons Two and Four
Comment: Season two was superb, and season four picks the pace back up, but season three by comparison just wasn't that great.
Don't get me wrong, it's still the Shield, and it's still great by any other standards, but by its own high benchmark it couldn't score any higher than a 3.
The non-stop adrenaline rush that the Shield should be is hindered by the unwanted politics of certain subplots that take too long to work out. C'mon, this is the shield, it should have happened five minutes ago, with an explosion, cut to the chase already. Too many tails here but not enough stings.
Twas a bad idea to have Mackey's hands tied by red-tape and commitments for half the season, and things in general suffer because of it.
Maybe they were just setting us up for season 4? Season 4 gets back to where the Shield should be, but really you know season 4 means little without watching season 5.
I'd argue that season 2 is the best stand-alone season.
Season 3 - still entertaining and a necessary watch for Shield fans, but a definite drag in the proceedings.
